"I have been blessed to work with the Rev. Terry Teykl; he has led numerous workshops in our area and we have had many opportunities to commune and pray together. The World Methodist Prayer Team is a wonderful tool to reach out and to unite the family of God throughout the world. John Wesley reminded us that the world is our parish, and this web site is carrying on the Wesleyan tradition by blending today’s needs and with today’s technology." Bishop Violet L. Fisher West New York Conference, United Methodist Church
”Dr. Teykl has inspired and challenged many churches in our area to start prayer rooms and pray diligently for their pastoral staffs. His ministry has been a blessing in many ways; praise be to God, in and through the precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! I strongly recommend Dr. Teykl’s ministry, and in particular the World Methodist Prayer Team, as a tool to help the United Methodist Church fulfill its calling in the world today.” Bishop Sudarshana Devadhar New Jersey Conference, United Methodist Church
”My friendship with Terry goes back many years. During that time, I have been blessed by his vision for a revitalized prayer life in the United Methodist Church. For Terry, it is more than a vision; it is a 100% commitment to hasten the day when our great church will once again bathe its entire life in prayer and the seeking of God’s face. For that reason, I am excited by this bold venture to link prayer warriors across the globe. I am excited by the vision of thousands united by the marvel of the internet to be of one mind, praying in one accord and seeking God’s will for His church and His people. I am excited to know that I can and will be part of this ‘cloud of witnesses’ participating in God’s master plan for the world.” Phil Granger President, The Mission Society for United Methdodists
”Jesus called us over and over to be people of prayer. And nowhere is the power of prayer to move peoples and cultures to Christ being demonstrated more powerfully than in the evangelical churches of the third world. In our increasingly secular western church, we need what they have.” Joe Peabody Senior Pastor, Dalton First United Methodist Church, Dalton, GA
Who Are We? My name is Terry Teykl and I am an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church. I have been a United Methodist pastor for 35 years and am currently under special appointment to Renewal Ministries in Houston, Texas.
In 1979 God spoke to my heart a mandate - build the church in prayer. Initially, this was a directive for the local church I was pastoring, Aldersgate United Methodist Church in College Station, Texas. In 1984, God expanded my vision to include the church at large, and I began to write about prayer and travel, teaching other local churches how to mobilize to pray. In 1995, I resigned as senior pastor to become a full-time prayer evangelist.
As a traveling speaker and seminar leader, I saw a great need in the Church for practical, affordable materials that could be used to encourage and teach prayer in local congregations. We began to produce books and resources on topics such as prayer rooms, evangelistic prayer, and prayer for pastors. These resources can be seen on our website www.prayerpointpress.com. It has been exciting and fulfilling to help many individuals and churches become more passionate about prayer and worship. In October 2003 I received a vision for the World Methodist Prayer Team - a kind of virtual prayer room that could be operational 24-7 and around the world. With 73 denominations, 39 million members, and another 37 million people in the fringe, the community of Wesleyan churches worldwide represents a significant percentage of the Christian population. Using the internet, we can now mobilize this scattered and diverse body to pray with unity and great purpose.
Recently I spoke at the International Prayer Conference for Wesleyans in Renewal in Singapore and caught sight of what God is doing across the globe through prayer. It is tremendous! I wanted to share the passion I saw in Singapore with every United Methodist Church in the United States. My prayer is that the WMPT will serve as a rally point to herald what is happening as churches become Houses of Prayer.
We are working with George Freeman and the World Methodist Council to facilitate prayer and worship for World Methodist. The headquarters for this organization is in Lake Junaluska, North Carolina, USA. Their web site is www.WorldMethodistCouncil.org |
